JKASW Strengthens Child Protection Through Teachers’ Training on School Grievance Redressal

The Jammu & Kashmir Association of Social Workers (JKASW), in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Bandipora, successfully conducted a two-day follow-up training programme on 21–22 May 2025 to strengthen grievance redressal mechanisms within schools and promote safer learning environments for children.

The programme brought together 100 teachers from schools across Bandipora district to enhance their understanding of child protection systems, complaint handling procedures, and the importance of creating child-friendly school environments where every child feels safe, respected, and heard.

The inaugural session was graced by Dr. Asima Hassan, Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Bandipora, who emphasized the vital role of teachers in identifying vulnerable children, responding to grievances, and ensuring timely support for children facing protection concerns.

Interactive sessions facilitated by Ms. Kulsum Bhat, Project Manager, JKASW, focused on strengthening school-level grievance redressal systems through practical tools, participatory discussions, and real-life case studies.

On the second day, Mr. Rasik Ramzan, Member, Juvenile Justice Board, Bandipora, led discussions on legal provisions, ethical decision-making, and fair grievance handling using practical examples from child protection cases.

A dedicated session by Mr. Khursheed Faraash, Theme Lead Adolescent Programme, JKASW, highlighted the importance of establishing robust, child-friendly grievance mechanisms that encourage children to speak up without fear and ensure timely, confidential, and appropriate responses.

Participants actively engaged in group work, case analyses, and collaborative planning exercises aimed at strengthening coordination between schools, child protection authorities, and community stakeholders. The training concluded with a shared commitment from educators and partner institutions to foster inclusive, safe, and supportive learning environments where every child can learn with dignity, confidence, and protection.
