Education Leaders and Civil Society Join Hands to Shape a Five-Year Roadmap for Education in Jammu & Kashmir
The Jammu & Kashmir Association of Social Workers (JKASW), in collaboration with the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Mission POSHAN, and UNICEF, organized a One-Day Roundtable Consultation to develop a Five-Year Roadmap for Education in Jammu & Kashmir, with a special focus on Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), Inclusive Education, Early Warning Systems (EWS), and Community Engagement.
The consultation brought together senior officials from the School Education Department, Mission POSHAN, SCERT, JKBOSE, UNICEF, and leading civil society organizations, including Pratham, NDF, Chinar International, Koshish, Kaivalya Education Foundation, and Humanity Welfare Organisation Helpline.
Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on strengthening foundational learning, promoting inclusive and equitable education, enhancing gender responsiveness, increasing community participation, and improving collaboration between government departments and civil society organizations.
One of the major outcomes of the consultation was the proposal to establish a Union Territory-level ECCE Consortium to strengthen coordination among stakeholders and improve the quality of early childhood education across Jammu & Kashmir.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of implementing an effective Early Warning System (EWS) to identify children at risk of dropping out, improve student retention, promote evidence-based planning, and strengthen educational data systems in alignment with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The consultation reaffirmed the shared commitment of government institutions, development partners, and civil society organizations to work collectively towards building an inclusive, resilient, and future-ready education system where every child has access to quality learning opportunities.
Through initiatives like this, JKASW continues to facilitate dialogue, strengthen partnerships, and contribute to shaping education policies that ensure equitable, child-centred, and sustainable development across Jammu & Kashmir.
